Niche marketing is the fine-tuning of your marketing to focus on a specific demographic of customers and/or products and services you offer. More simply put, it means a business is choosing to play to its strengths and highlight them for the people with whom it will resonate the most. Niche marketing affords many benefits, but finding your niche market isn’t always easy. In fact, you don’t always “find” your niche market. Sometimes it finds you. In this post we’ll go over some examples of niche markets to help you start thinking about what a niche strategy might look like for your business.

Niche marketing is a form of marketing that is geared toward a very specific population, or niche. Niche marketing is possible when a business specializes in a particular service, or serves a particular demographic within its target audience. If the business forms its marketing endeavors around this subgroup, this business would be in the practice of niche marketing.

Notice the "may be". Although there are many entrepreneurs that make an excellent living at home in professions such as consulting or information technology, the home businesses listed here are not generally big money makers. They are however, legitimate businesses rather than "make money in your sleep" or any of those other phony work from home schemes.
With few exceptions, such as American Idol, the Super Bowl and the Olympics, it is not common for a substantial audience to watch a program at once. Still, networks do target particular demographics. Lifetime targets women and MTV targets youth. Sports channels, for example, STAR Sports, ESPN, STAR Cricket, and Fox Sports, target the niche market of sports enthusiasts.[citation needed]
