Niche marketing can be extremely cost-effective. For instance, imagine you offer a product or service that's just right for a select demographic or ethnic group in your area, such as Hispanics or Asians. You could advertise on ethnic radio stations, which have considerably lower rates than stations that program for broader audiences. So your marketing budget would go a lot further, allowing you to advertise with greater frequency or to use a more comprehensive media mix.
It’s not just that, though. Niche branding will allow you to say “this is exactly what I can do and this is exactly who I can help.” It will help you to stand out and your target audience will know that you’re exactly the brand that can help them. You’ll lose other potential customers, but at the end of the day, they weren’t the customers that you really wanted to begin with.
Because niche marketing is targeted and specialized, it requires a strong background in consumer research, as well as a deep understanding of marketing principles and strategies. Marketing programs offer general courses in business, economics, and basic marketing principles that provide an overview of how companies work and compete for market share and customers.
The key to success in this business is being very disciplined in buying. Limit your car buying to popular models that you can turn over quickly, models that you have a strong understanding of current local pricing on, cars that you can buy at a significant discount to the price you believe you can fairly sell them for, and cars that are highly unlikely to need major work.
In 2001, a 157-year-old beer company headquartered in the suds Mecca of Milwaukee, Wisconsin was in trouble. Sales had been declining for years, and there was little hope of a rebound. The beer market was dominated by titans MillerCoors and Anheuser-Busch and their behemoth advertising and marketing budgets. Brand recognition, ad dollars, and shelf space for one of America’s oldest breweries were scarce and getting scarcer.
It’s one of the first ideas people have when they think of starting a business: making and selling crafts. That means there’s lots of competition. But such isolation does have a positive side: working at home increases productivity by an average of 20 percent, so home-based business owners can often get more work done in less time. Planning is necessary to overcome the negative effects of isolation, however. Experts recommend that home-based business owners schedule interaction with other people on a regular basis, using such means as business meals, outside meetings and appointments, clubs and associations, and networking.

Establishing a niche market give you the opportunity to provide products and services to a group that other businesses have overlooked. You can think of a niche market as a narrowly defined group of potential customers that have specific needs, a subset of a larger group.
